About Lawrence County

Lawrence County

Nestled in between Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Erie, Lawrence County was created on March 20, 1849, from parts of Beaver and Mercer counties due to the rapid growth of New Castle.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Lawrence County has a total area of 363 square miles.

Two nationally known companies, Zambelli Fireworks International and Pyrotecnico both got their start in New Castle, PA in the mid 1800’s.   Today Lawrence County is known as the Fireworks Capital of America.

Lawrence County is also home to the third largest Old Order Amish sect.  They cover 14 districts, each with their own school and Bishop to govern.    Amish Countryside is a place where nature thrives and hasn’t been disturbed by western civilization.
